Thanks to the many generous supporters of the program and vision of “No Child Goes Hungry,” the Dare to Care program is currently feeding hundreds of children in our community. Seeing the program grow over the last three years from initially feeding thirty-five children in two schools, to the now hundreds of children in eighteen schools has strengthened my feelings of Alaska being a wonderful place to live and raise a family. The sense of community and ‘helping your neighbor’ is a large part of the Alaskan way of life and I am very proud to be a part of that tradition.
Following is a poem written by James, a fourth grader in the Anchorage School District who benefited from the Dare to Care program. I hope the poem brings you half the joy it brings to me every time I read it. Enjoy!
A Dare to Care
A world of daring people
can turn into a caring person of love.As stars sprinkled in the heavens,
a giving God loves.A person who Dares to Care.
