Summer Meals Program

A big success thanks to
support from individuals,
businesses and the community!

This summer, Dare to Care served over 400 meals to children in the Eagle River/Chugiak area. No federal or state assistance was received. This was made possible by volunteers and donations from individuals and businesses in this great community we call “home”. Children were served spaghetti, casserole, home-made macaroni and cheese, barbequed hot dogs and cheese burgers, sandwiches, home-made stew, fruit, fun deserts, granola bars, juice and much more. The kids had a great time and were always very thankful and polite.

Many individuals donated hours to be at the VFW to prepare and serve food and clean up. Our main cook this summer was Phyllis Nelson.

A BIG Thank You to the Eagle River VFW, Post 9785 who graciously allowed Dare to Care to use their facilities. It was handy having the separate entrance, kitchen and dining area. The facility was perfect and the staff was very helpful. The manager, Lynn Raulerson, was amazing. Besides being supportive, she is a problem solver who is always finding the positive and helping make things possible. Thank You, Lynn!
