Schools and School Programs in our community |

Chugiak High School has been amazing in their generosity and desire to help children in our schools. The Chugiak Varsity Cheerleaders donated $1,000.00 that they won through the Community Service Award from Alaska State Cheer Association. This money will help both Dare to Care and the district’s Partner’s In Homeless Education program. The Chugiak Special Education Department makes and sells smoothies at school. They donated $100.00 to benefit these students as well. Mr. Lang and the Chugiak Swing Choir designated their 2006 Winter Show to benefit the Dare to Care program – and to jump start the program at Chugiak High School so students could immediately start benefiting. The show was amazing as usual and helped bring information into the community about Dare to Care and its efforts. The Chugiak Swing Choir donated $400 to the program. Thank you! |

Chugiak Elementary School participated in a Thanksgiving Dinner Box drive in which 20 classes decorated boxes and filled them with all the needed ingredients for a perfect Thanksgiving Day dinner – including a turkey! The boxes were first distributed to families-in-need within the school and the remaining boxes were disbursed to families in neighboring schools. During Thanksgiving 2006, 13 families in the Chugiak/Eagle River area received dinner boxes and 7 boxes went to families in Anchorage. Both Eagle River and Lake Hood Elementary Schools have expressed interest in helping Dare to Care and Chugiak Elementary’s efforts in the Thanksgiving Dinner food drive. This has the potential of 60 families benefiting next year! That is amazing! Sign your school up to participate in this program for Thanksgiving 2007. |

Service High School: Z-ClubZ-Club is a student organization affiliated with Zonta International which is a service organization. Z-Club has been established at Service for over ten years and it attracts students who are interested in doing things for their school and community. Traditionally, they help out at events such as Trick or Treat Town and school carnivals. They have also been involved with Kids’ Kitchen, bell ringing with the Salvation Army, and Big Brothers Big Sisters. They also have in-school fundraisers. One particular favorite is when they make waffles which have been presold. |
The Z-Club donated $200.00 to help feed children in their neighborhoods. Thanks - and, GO COUGARS!! |
